A Minimal Makeup Bag

It might be because I look more zombie than human these days but I've recently come to appreciate the role of makeup in my life. I've never been one for a full face but I do love having something to help me look more awake. Plus the ritual of applying it makes me feel as though I'm doing a little something everyday to look after myself.

My makeup collection used to be kinda crazy... especially for someone who only ever wore a couple of items. I used to love watching makeup tutorials on YouTube which inevitably got me wanting (and buying) all the things. I ended up with more makeup than I could ever use before the expiration date so I got rid of 90% of what I had when we moved house.

Was it hard? Oh for sure. The items were so dang pretty but they were taking up space and going off. It also helped that we were moving into a house with a smaller bathroom and a lot less storage. Yay for necessity.

These days I've settled on a minimal collection and routine to match. I keep only the products I use everyday (except for mascara and eyeliner if I'm getting fancy). Here's what I use:

+  Burt's Bees BB Cream : A lovely multi-purpose base. It's great for sun protection, brightening and evening out skin tone.

+  L'oreal True Match Concealer : This bad boy helps with those dark circles. A must! I love how this product blends into the skin and stays put.

+  Bobbi Brown Natural Brow Shaper : I recently went from Benefit Instant Brow to this little gem and I love, love it. It makes taming brows simpler... one step to fill and shape. Gotta love that.

+  e.l.f. Mechanical Eyelash Curler : I've noticed that mascara makes me look very done up so day-to-day giving my lashes a curl does the job. This eyelash curler gets some bad reviews online but personally, it's the only lash curler I've found that can clamp all my lashes at once... even the ones riiiiiiight at the outer corner. It has a bigger, flatter shape which I guess suits my eye shape better than ones I've tried before.

+  Clinique Chubby Stick Cheek Colour Balm : Foolproof cheek colour. A dab on the cheeks gives the loveliest natural flush and it stays all day. I also pop some on my lips after my favourite balm.

If I'm getting fancy, I'll whip out...

+  Maybelline Lash Sensational Luscious Mascara : I love mascaras that define and separate and this one does just that. I also don't have any trouble with smudging under the eyes!

+  Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner : My go-to eye liner. Forever and ever. I use it mainly to thicken my upper lash line but I'll go a little cat-eye if I'm feeling adventurous.

And know what I love most? It only takes a couple of minutes in the morning to have me going from zombie to human. Well... less zombie at least. Haha.

Do you have a minimal makeup routine? What are your must-have items?
